Rocking Horse News! The online home of Rocking Horse Studio is now open. We'll be adding news and photos on a regular basis, so please check back often. September 2007 One of the area’s most popular bands, Prospect Hill, has been at the studio working on their new disc, which is scheduled release in November 2007. Rocking Horse owners Brian Coombes and David Pierog are co-producing the project with the band. The disc will feature a guest appearance by Godsmack guitarist Tony Rombola, who visited the studio recently to lay down a guitar solo for one of the tracks on the disc. Click here to see pictures from the session. Critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter, Christian Cuff, was at the studio in July, backed by the Swedish group, Gustav & the Seasick Sailors. The Swedes also managed to record basic tracks for a song that will appear on their next release for Marilyn Records. Christian is scheduled to return in September to record basic tracks on his new disc, which will be completed in Sweden. Click here for pictures from the session. Closer to home, New Hampshire favorites, Soak, have started recording their new disc with both David and Brian engineering. The band recently unveiled an EP of five songs completed at Rocking Horse during their performance at Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion in Gilford, New Hampshire. New Hampshire-based hip-hop artist Justin Gregoire, aka G$, has been working on tracks for his forthcoming disc. Finally, guitar legend Mike McAdam was in the studio producing a new project for Robert Fleig. The project also featured Tristan Park drummer Jim Turmel. March/April
2007 Tony
Rombola (Godsmack) was in the studio recently with his friend, blues
guitarist, George Williams. We look forward to spending more time with
Tony and his music in the future. Guitarist/producer
Duke Levine (Aimee Mann, Jonatha Brooke, Ellis Paul) was in working with
acoustic rock duo Chuck Jones and Mike Hoyle. Dave and Brian will be
contributing drums and bass to the project. Click here to see pictures
from the recent session with Duke. Coby
Carlucci and John Farias, both Dave’s band mates in Tractor Trailer,
were in working on new material. The two tracked a number of guitar and
vocal parts and enjoyed the studio’s antique “jangle box” upright
piano. Dollhouse
Factor, a melodic rock band from New Jersey, was here for a week tracking
its debut CD with producer Aaron Katz. Apart from some killer drum, grand
piano, and mellotron sounds, the band enjoyed the studio’s bed &
breakfast hospitality and tranquil New England setting. Steve
Blunt, popular children’s singer and our great friend, has completed
tracking the material for his next disc. We’ll start mixing the
follow-up to Steve’s big seller, “Hang On, Henry” in April. James
Jeckyl & the Hydes, a progressive art rock band from Wilton, New
Hampshire, was in tracking drums and grand piano for a future release. The
band has a unique piano driven sound that blends early Genesis with Split
Enz and Ben Folds. They enjoyed using the studio’s mellotron to add
mystery and drama to a number of tracks like only a real mellotron can. Driven
is a progressive metal band from Derry, New Hampshire. They are in working
on a three song demo for management consideration. Think Dream Theatre
meets Stevie Ray Vaughn. Skamasutra,
a ska band from Exeter, New Hampshire, blends old school ska (the
Specials) with new (Mighty Bosstones) with a huge touch of early Joe
Jackson thrown in for good measure. They will also be contributing horns
to a ska tune on Steve Blunt’s next disc. Darrell
Cook, a multi-talented rap/hip hop artist from the Concord, New Hampshire
area, has just started a new project with us. We’ll be working with
Darrell to develop original beats for his material. Mike
McAdam, Brian’s Tristan Park/Waking in the Blue band mate, was in
recording drums for his new project. He’ll be returning to Rocking Horse
over the next few months with a variety of projects that he’s producing. The
Callie Lipton Trio, an atmospheric pop/rock band fronted by the lovely and
talented Callie Lipton, tracked its debut disc with us in January.
Multi-instrumentalist/producer Aaron Katz provided piano and hand drums
and made great use of the studio’s mellotron. Eye
90, a rock band from Saratoga Spring, New York was in recently tracking
drums for a project with producer Danno Saratak. Rocking Horse's Brian
Coombes engineered. The band and producer enjoyed the sound and vibe of
our large tracking room, with Danno calling it "a baby Bearsville,"
a reference to the legendary studio in upstate New York that closed
recently. They also enjoyed the bed & breakfast hospitality and
relaxed surroundings. Click here for
